Thursday, January 1, 2009 : Welcome to Oculus of Nex

Hello and welcome to the Oculus of Nex website.

Our guild's roots were founded in LotRO when like minded people came together to form a tribe who's sole purpose was the destruction of the Free People of Middle Earth (aka Freeps). We play hard and have good times. Our vent is raucous and a must. We are fiercely loyal to our own and help each other out at all times. We strive to be the best we can be in the games we play. Please feel free to click here to learn a little more about us. Below you will find our latest updates.

Enjoy your stay!

Tuesday, November 24, 2009 : Waiting... evilspinner
Hey all,

As some of you may have already noticed around the forums and due to our lack of presence in game, we've decided to move away from Aion. The PvP is fairly disappointing, with players at 40+ able to consistantly get the jump on lower levels rifting or questing. Even after reaching the level cap, fighting in the Abyss has seemed more of a frustration than fun. With huge groups using numbers to overwhelm rather than working with strategy or careful planning, I feel that Aion simply doesn't provide the sort of atmosphere and challenge those in OoN prefer.

For now, a handful of us (consisting mostly of the officers) have moved back to WoW and are playing on the Lightbringer server, Hordeside. Our guild name there is Strawberry Nubcakes - if you'd like to join in, feel free to sign up and send us a whisper.

At this point OoN is in a transitory state, but we're happy to have our current members stick around until we find our next "official" mmo. At the moment it's looking to be SW: The Old Republic from Bioware, but since its release is still some time in the future, check in at the forums every now and then to stay updated and keep in touch. We're still available in Vent as well, so drop by whenever you need a little insanity added to the day.

Hope to see everyone in the forums or WoW until we've decided what's next, until then, take care and good luck!
Thursday, October 8, 2009 : Meeting 10/7/09 evilspinner
Thank you to all the members who showed up at the meeting yesterday, we had a nice turnout and discussed a few changes that needed to be made so that things can continue to run smoothly. Hopefully the officers and I managed to clear up any questions, and the "system" we now have regarding the guild crafting will be both efficient and more organized. For those of you who need a recap or couldn't make the gathering, please read below -

Crafting

Mats should now be sent to the corresponding guild crafter(s) that can use the items, IF you would like to contribute. This is not an obligation but it does help the crafters save the time and expense of gathering their own supplies. I understand certain mats can be sold on the AH for a decent amount of money, so if you're truly concerned, ask the crafters what type of mats they're currently looking for and only focus on donating those particular items. You may also send kinah to whatever crafters you'd prefer to help in leveling up their skills, as mats for work orders alone get very expensive the further up the tiers you travel. Kinah is often even more important than receiving mats; unless the crafters do get some form of monetary support they will not be able to keep leveling their skill to get you correspondingly powerful items. You don't have to send in everything you own, just a few thousand kinah here and there is a great way to support in itself.

When you want something crafted, please try and make this a simple process for the crafters. You can see what items can be made for your level by checking the lists linked in the previous news post, or going to Aion Armory (hover over "Recipes", click the area you're interested in, then sort by char level). Send the crafters in-game mail or possibly a tell (these can be lost to the ether if the crafters are busy, so writing is more convenient) and list what you'd like made, along with sending ALL the necessary mats. Therefore, if you'd like to contribute to a crafter but also want an item that requires a mat you possess, simply hold onto it so that you can send it along with your "order" rather than donating, as the crafters will use any contributions to gain skillpoints or crit other items. Note that you should also ask the crafters approximately how much they need in kinah to get necessary vendor mats and provide that amount as well (or else go with them to a crafting hall and buy the items then trade), because this is where we've been hurting the most. As much as all the crafters would like to give you things for free they simply can't afford it, and even with the high cost of crafting I can assure you most things in the AH are nearly double the price or worse.

The main idea is that we try and keep all our resources within the guild, whether it's for crafting or otherwise, so that our members get the benefit of obtaining whatever they need before the rest of the Aion population. We look out for one another and thus "sharing the wealth" is simply a part of the guild - we don't want anyone to be running themselves broke, but so long as we work as a team there should never be an instance where anyone is in need.

Also, please focus a lot of attention on that first request - send mats you want to donate to the respective guild crafters now. Getting a million items in my mailbox was only working "well" for about two seconds. (I do, however, make the cooking/tailoring items, so feel free to give me anything related there.) If you need a list of who the crafters are check the link in the last news post, or while in game go to the legion menu, click the "arrow" button to extend the information on the guild members for their personal statement, and look to see who can create what you need. I also have no problem with individuals taking up crafting for themselves in order to help other members, but I'd prefer it if only the official crafters were sent items. This would just be best so we don't run our resources dry for a bit of skill level here and there amidst ten people versus one or two maxed out crafters.

Trading

There's been a slight problem lately with people in the guild requesting mats to make crafted items and then selling the finished products on the AH. Hopefully with all the previous clarification this will be cleared up so that our items stay within the guild unless no one else needs the equipment. However, I know that there are those of you who still want to craft and would appreciate some form of guild support. To remedy this, talk to one another on a personal basis to work out "trades". I.e., if one person has a higher aether gathering skill and yet needs a flux drop to make an item, while another has need for aether crystals and possesses the flux, ask on guildchat to see if this could be arranged and swap items. This way we'll still be working within OoN unless no one has the mats being requested, but as we're covering a decent range of levels right now I doubt many "deficiencies" should arise.

Alts

Some of you have been starting alts already and this is fine, but be aware that they are currently not being accepted in the main guild. All alts in Oculus of Nex are being booted in order to keep our member list clean and avoid confusion if someone decides to send off supplies to a "new" member when this is not the case. Secondary characters can still be affiliated with us on Vaizel; when you sign in look for an officer's alt (names will be listed soon) and send them a tell asking for an invite into our other legion, "OoN".

Membership

OoN prides itself on keeping its members within a close-knit community and we've now reached the preferred capacity. Because of this we're no longer accepting members UNLESS they are a friend from "real life" or a family member. People you've played with in other mmo's for 6+ months will also be considered. The main concern is that we only want those you know will be supportive and act accordingly in the guild, otherwise we're closed off to new recruits.

I appreciate you all keeping up with what we've gone over and getting such a large response. Hope everyone benefits from the updates and enjoys the game!
